We were fortunate enough to sit down with the lovely Olivia Rogers to chat mental health, body image, and how she navigates her position as an influential woman to over 100,000 followers. For those who aren't familiar, Olivia won the Miss Universe Australia title in 2017, is a talented artist, speech pathologist, and mother to one of the cutest puppies ever, Ziggy the Chow.
We wanted to quickly mention that sadly, due to our camera deciding to reset half way through our chat (yay technology!), a small portion of our chat with Olivia was cut off. In this section, we spoke of the challenges that come with sharing your struggles as someone in a position of privilege to a large audience; namely, being branded spoilt and selfish and attention seeking, and who "couldn't possibly understand" what it's like to deal with mental health problems. Admiringly, Olivia acknowledged her privilege and the fortunate position she is in, and that this comes with significant responsibility. Olivia assured us that despite the criticism, most of the responses she receives are positive and she will continue to share her story in the hopes that it will help someone else who may resonate.
We hope you enjoy this chat as much as we did, and if it brings up any issues for you, please make sure you head to the support links below;
